Micro Films for CFPs & Financial Advisors
Easily Build Trust with Potential Clients
When a retiree, or a wealth-building career woman, or someone recently widowed or divorced arrives to your website, what do they find?
The home page probably has a lovely picture of you and your team and a dash of info. Let’s be honest, it’s hard to make a wealth management website sizzle.
You can’t make any big promises or get too carried away with your marketing message. You’re not allowed to use big ROI testimonials.
So what happens next?
Your potential client begins clicking around the site, hoping to find something that will immediately give them that feeling of “Yes, I trust this person enough to book a first meeting!”
They WANT to be convinced. They’re actually on your side, and they’re looking for something that will signify that you’re the right fit.
They’re hoping to have that lovely feeling of trust wash over them.
Let’s talk about trust for a minute.
Trust is the basis of all successful businesses, but especially in the case of a CFP or Financial Advisor.
Your clients are often coming to you from a place of fear or concern. Often they’re “escaping” another advisor that they’ve lost trust with. Other times they’re going through a huge financial upheaval and they need help.
You’re often working with your clients during their biggest and most emotional life moments.
While you probably have your first-meeting down to a science, it will go a lot smoother if your potential client already feels like they know and trust you. At the very least, you want your potential client to LIKE you and have a sense of who you are.
Enter the story-based micro film.
Some producers or marketing folks call these brand videos.
But that doesn’t quite express how special these films are. In a 2-3 minute micro film, your story will come alive. Your potential clients will have the incredible opportunity to get to know you before you meet.
They’ll watch your video and instantly get that I-like-this-person feeling. Or, they’ll watch it and think: Nope, not for me.
Either response is good. A video is just as much about filtering out the potential clients that will not be a good fit.
“This was the best marketing piece I’ve ever done.
There was one couple where I remember the wife saying, “We saw this video and I said to my husband, ‘This is the guy we need to work with.’”
As a result of that, I got a million dollar IRA rollover, which made me really happy.

Make a Heartfelt Connection
Salmeron Financial
Rick wanted a video that would tell his story to his ideal client. While many people think that the only criteria for a new client is that they have a hefty portfolio, some CFPs have a more specific niche. Rick helps many career-driven women and he also works with a lot of couples who are in the wealth-building phase of their lives. His video was designed to communicate the personal and special touches he provides.
Hinkson Wealth Management
We discovered that one of the main through-lines with Greg’s clients was that they’re all family oriented. Unusually, he serves many people within an extended family. He retains his clients for a long time and grows a strong bond with each and every one of them. Greg didn’t have a single origin story that he wanted to tell, so we focused on his company’s most critical value proposition instead.
Hi, I’m Colette!
I'm the Founder & Story Strategist behind Story Envelope Media, a Vancouver-based media creation company.
Story has been one of my passions for years.
As a kid, story was my main reason for existence. We didn’t have a television, so I read books like it was my job.
But as soon as I had enough money and the cojones to stand up for my “right” to a small screen, I bought a 13 inch television at the local Walmart and started watching late night Hitchcock movies with rigorous obsession.
I was hooked on story, on moving pictures, and on the poetry of communicating authentically and intimately.
And that brings me to where I am today: helping businesses tell their stories so they can connect with their ideal clients.
Who Is This For?
I work with CFPs and Financial Advisors who care deeply about the well-being and long-term financial health of their clients.
For you, the client always comes first. No matter what.
You’re proud of your results, but you’re also proud of how many long-term clients you have.
While you’re probably an ambitious go-getter, you’re also deeply focused on relationships. You know that everything starts and ends with people.

“Polarizing is Perfect”
“My wife loves it, and my Mom loves it too! My sister’s response was “Well, this is perfection!”
You captured something really special.
The more I’ve thought about it, read your thoughts, and the more we’ve talked about it at the office today, the more I think it is perfect.
Polarizing is perfect.
You did an amazing job.

What’s the Process?
1 Getting to Know You
In the consultation process I ask you a lot of questions to get to know you, your goals, and your vision. I also dig into who your ideal client is and what you want to communicate.
2 Proposal
Based on our conversation, I’ll create a custom proposal for you that outlines what you’re looking for and what that would cost.
3 Moving Forward
If you’d like to move forward, we get started right away. We book a shoot date and I begin planning.
4 The Shoot
This is the big moment that you’ll probably feel a little nervous about. But don’t worry, it’s my job to make you look good. You’ll be prepped and ready to go!
5 The Edit
I usually spend 3-4 weeks getting the first edit done. I’m not editing non-stop every day. I like to give myself a chance to digest everything I’ve captured. Typically there is 10x the amount of footage than I need. So now I need to shape it into the engaging story your ideal clients will love to watch.
6 Review and Refine
You’ll get a chance to see the first edit. If you have any changes you’d like, I go ahead with them. Usually the changes are minor. From there, if there is a review agency that needs to see the video, we send it off to them. Once it has been totally approved, I do the colour grading and the final sound mix.
7 Launch
Time to share your micro film on your website, with your client list, on your social media profiles, and YouTube, and potentially even as a Facebook advert. You’ll get a Guide Book on how to make sure you’re leveraging your video to its full extent. Many people get a video and don’t make the most of it. We don’t want that to happen to you!

Some Stats 📈
A little nerd-data is always nice. Let’s be honest though: most stats online about video marketing are commissioned by HUGE video marketing companies.
So I’m not always sure how legit they are. That’s why I’ve included my own experience as well.
Viewers retain 95% of a message when they watch it in a video, compared to 10% when reading it in text.
Marketers who use video grow revenue 49% faster than non-video users.
Video drives a 157% increase in organic traffic.
I’ve personally seen through my own marketing work with Facebook ads and Google Search that video will do the following:
Show up faster in search than text-based pages.
Rise to the top of a search term and get on the first page of Google for non-competitive terms quickly.
Have incredible watch-through rates in Facebook ads as well as drive traffic and interest.
Turn a maybe into a yes faster than any other method.
Create instant trust with a company or individual.
Allow for a much deeper connection than text alone.
I became interested in video marketing when I saw how well it worked on me! I’ve seen time and again how when I’m on the fence, the best for a company to close a deal with me is if there’s a video.
What’s the cost?
First of all, getting a single video or series is an investment.
A well-crafted micro film will be relevant for 5 or more years.
You only need a new micro film when your look has changed drastically or you’d like to showcase a new office setting or people.
To hire a team of professionals to create a single story-based video for your company would usually cost $10,000.
I’m a solo filmmaker. Which comes with many benefits. One of which is that I’m typically able to bring your story to life at a better price (and with better quality) than a team. Who doesn’t want that?
The 2020 price for one of my high-end micro films shot in Vancouver is $4950 CDN. For out-of-Canada shoots there is a different price which depends on where you are located.
If you would like multiple videos or something quite simple (like a talking head video) that would have a different rate.
Regardless, for every project, I always create a custom proposal.
How does it work?
If you’re interested in moving the conversation forward, please book a time in my calendar below.
We’ll talk about your business, what your goals are with your video, and who your ideal clients are.
It’ll take 30-45 minutes.
From there I’ll create a custom proposal that takes all of those elements into account.
If that works for you, we’ll move forward with the project.
This discovery chat holds no obligation. It’s simply a way for you to understand the process and for me to get to know your business goals.

“I Wouldn’t Know What to Change”
Oh my goodness, this is so good!! Honestly, I wouldn’t know what to change. The length is perfect as is. I like the music too. It works really well with the content/messaging.
Thanks for all the efforts you’ve put into this. So good. I’ve watched this 3x and am highly entertained each time.

Who else have you worked with?
I’ve worked with business ranging from design companies to private schools to artists and life coaches to real estate agents and even other media creators.
Financial advisors have become somewhat of a niche for me.
I think this is because in addition to being a filmmaker, I have an avid interest in investing and wealth creation. I believe that being in control of your money is a critical life skill.
Yet, over the years I’ve seen that most people are not emotionally equipped to invest on their own.
People need a trusted advisor to help them. There’s so much fear around money. If someone can find a financial advisor that gets them, has their best interest at heart, and possesses excellent skills as well as impeccable integrity, they are incredibly lucky.
In addition to making films, I’m also an educator. I teach solo filmmaking to other creatives.
These are some of my favourite client films from other industries:
“You truly captured the essence of me”
I couldn’t be happier with my video!! I feel you truly captured the essence of me and my business. I actually became quite emotional the first time I saw it. I am super excited to have such a great tool to share and highlight my business.
— Kristy, Video Client
“Very Impressive”
Sorry to keep filling your inbox with video reviews, but I just showed it to my harshest critic (my 22 year old son) and he pronounced the video “very impressive.”
